What is the normal BMI range?▼
The WHO standard is 18.5-24.9 for normal weight. For Asians, 18.5-22.9 is normal, and 23+ is considered overweight.
Does a high BMI always mean obesity?▼
No. BMI doesn't directly measure body fat, so muscular athletes may have a high BMI without being obese.
Is BMI calculated the same for children?▼
The formula is the same, but interpretation differs. Children use age- and sex-specific percentiles, not adult BMI categories.
